Opened in 1977, our office in Paris was the firm's first overseas establishment. HFW's offices in Paris and Rouen have experienced strong growth, now comprising 33 resident lawyers including 9 partners several of whom are dual qualified as Avocats à la Cour and Solicitors. The Paris office, historically, is known in the market for advising on maritime and air transportation, insurance, reinsurance, customs law, industrial risks and international trade, and has a strong reputation in the field of commercial litigation and arbitration. However, the office also has a strong non-maritime transactional practice, which advises on corporate, commercial and financing transactions for domestic, cross-border and international projects from mergers and acquisitions, complex projects to tax-driven leasing, structured and asset finance. Chambers Europe 2009 comments: "The go-to firm" for complex shipping matters, this outfit has a comprehensive practice and handles both litigation and transactional issues. It covers admiralty, charter party disputes, personal injury and ship sales. Frequently seen acting for P&I clubs and shipowners, the lawyers are also instructed in major cases by marine insurers and banks, and are prized by clients for their "unwavering dedication" and availability. While shipping is a key practice area, the group is also skilled in the aviation sector. The lawyers work closely with colleagues from offices across the firm's vast network and can quickly call up teams of experts. Guillaume Brajeux is an excellent litigator who "can handle virtually any maritime dispute." He is known for his work on behalf of insurance and reinsurance companies. Also a dispute resolution specialist, Oliver Purcell is a rising name in the sector and is valued for his proficiency in French and English law.
