UNIQA pojistovna, a.s. entered the market for insurance in the Czech Republic in 1993 under its original name "Cesko-rakouska pojistovna". The company changed its name to "UNIQA pojistovna" in 2001 as part of the international strategy of its parent group to associate all of the member companies with the "UNIQA" name. The UNIQA Group is an international group of companies, which is based in Vienna. UNIQA is the largest insurance company in Austria, where it has roughly a one-fifth share of the market. The group currently has a presence in 21 countries across Europe, where it operates through its 30 subsidiaries. The ambition of the UNIQA Group is to the most dynamic Austrian insurance company in continental Europe.

The sole shareholder in UNIQA CZ is UNIQA International Versicherungs-Holding, GmbH.

UNIQA CZ is the holder of a universal insurance license, which enables the company to provide services in all segments of life and non-life insurance business. The company is currently able to offer practically any type of insurance product and to satisfy a full range of their client's insurance needs.

Throughout its history, UNIQA CZ has always been among the ten strongest insurers on the Czech market and it currently is in 9th place. The company offers its services through more than 170 agency offices throughout the Czech Republic. Its currently has more than 552,000 insurance contracts in force and collects annual premiums of close to CZK 4.7 billion.
