Profile:
McGregor & Partners S.C.A. provide advice, advocacy and legal opinions on matters governed by European Union, English, Romanian, Bulgarian and other local laws. We also deal with the negotiation and drafting of sophisticated but clear contractual documentation in the English, Bulgarian and Romanian languages, by experienced native speakers. Our team includes experienced advocates with rights of audience in all levels of local courts.
We provide our clients with sound and commercial legal advice, based on international expertise and on practical experience of investing, doing business and buying property in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and elsewhere in the surrounding region.
Our long-term presence in this region allows us to offer clients detailed and current local knowledge, an extensive network of contacts and a thorough understanding of the business, cultural and political environment in the countries in which we operate.
Our business culture and standards of service are however unchanged from when McGregor & Partners was established from the regional office of a City of London-based firm. We continue to work to international standards, combining local expertise with international best practice.
We place great importance on effective communication. This includes giving straightforward advice in plain language and also taking time to understand our clients’ businesses and commercial objectives. We work very closely with our clients, and also with their other advisers on particular projects. We provide clients with regular reports on progress in dealing with their instructions and always ensure that clients can easily contact the partners responsible for dealing with their affairs. |

Overview:
McGregor & Partners S.C.A. is a full-service law firm with offices in Bucharest, Romania and in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Originally established from the branch office of the City of London firm Sinclair Roche & Temperley, McGregor & Partners is managed by experienced Bulgarian and Romanian lawyers, headed by a British commercial solicitor with some ten years’ experience of living and practising in the region.
We offer solutions to help our clients exploit the opportunities offered by the changing environment in the region, whilst managing the risks. We do this by providing practical and clear advice and efficient legal services which combine international standards, expertise and connections with local knowledge, contacts and ability.
Finding the right solution for a client involves more than a simple knowledge of the law, particularly when dealing with people from different countries and cultures. It involves practicality, commercial awareness, an understanding of local factors and a sound grasp of differences in business culture and in people’s expectations and outlook.
Finding the right solution also involves a degree of imagination. In some cases the right solution is to follow a well-trodden path. In other cases the right solution will require more creative thought and a departure from standard courses of action. We are always ready to seek creative legal solutions which are consistent with our clients’ commercial objectives.

History:
We can trace our development from the establishment in Bucharest of a regional office of the City of London-based law firm Sinclair Roche & Temperley in 1992. Sinclair Roche & Temperley had previously advised on Romanian shipping and maritime matters from London for many years before the Romanian revolution in 1989. Our managing partner Neil McGregor was the first resident expatriate lawyer in that Bucharest office and, after the introduction of a requirement that foreign lawyers in Romania practise through Romanian law firms, became the managing partner of McGregor & Partners S.C.A. (then called Popescu & Asociatii S.C.P.A.) on its establishment in 2002.
McGregor & Partners initially acted as the regional office of Sinclair Roche and Temperley and, following a merger in May 2002, of Stephenson Harwood.
In 2004 we became fully independent. We however maintain an association with our former parent firm, Stephenson Harwood. Stephenson Harwood is an international law firm based in the City of London. 2006 has seen an important expansion of the operations of McGregor & Partners with the formalisation of our presence in Bulgaria. Julian Spassov of the Sofia Bar has worked with us for a number of years as our Bulgarian correspondent lawyer, a role which he has also undertaken for a number of City of London-based firms. Julian has joined us as a partner and will continue to be based in Sofia, where he is the partner in charge of our new office there.
2006 has also seen the move of our Bucharest team to newly-built offices in the Kisseleff / Aviatorilor business and professional district of Bucharest.
