Overview:

The 2010 Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) between Taiwan and China presents further opportunities in this jurisdiction. The ECFA was designed to gradually remove investment restrictions on Taiwanese companies in industries such as medical, banking and information technology, and will waive custom duties on more than 500 products imported from Taiwan. With exports as the mainstay of Taiwan's economy, the ECFA clearly offers significant scope for investors.

In addition, the members of Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) are Taiwan’s major trading partners. China-ASEAN free trade zone arrangements went into effect in January 2010. To establish a gateway to Southeast Asia, Taiwanese companies can take advantage of the ECFA to enter the ASEAN free trade zone by investing in cities like Guangxi and Yunnan on China's southern border.

Economic activities and demand for financial services are expected to steadily increase In view of further liberalization of investment and trading restrictions between China, Taiwan and ASEAN countries.
