Overview: 

Lloyd’s has been active in France for many years, mainly in reinsurance. After World War II and the move towards insurance regulation in France, Lloyd’s was authorised to underwrite direct insurance business by special decree in 1947.

Paris thus became its first representative office in continental Europe. For more than 65 years, Lloyd’s underwriters were allowed to underwrite direct insurance business in France.

The French market is the largest source of revenue for Lloyd’s in Europe after UK. The turnover generated by France in 2012 amounted to approximately 550 million euros, divided between direct insurance and reinsurance, between business underwritten in France and outside France, mainly from London.

Lloyd’s in France is recognised as leader in key markets such as transport and aviation. It is also very active in property and casualty insurance. Lloyd's underwriters also have the opportunity to work closely with brokers and are offered tailor made insurance products for specific risks.
