History:

The history of our firm dates back to 1896 and Tibor Schön, who was among one of the first patent attorneys in Hungary, and his son, Tibor Somlai. Tibor Somlai followed in his father's footsteps by qualifying as a patent attorney in 1929. A period of Hungarian economic expansion followed in the 1960's when both András Beliczay and Ferenc Bíró, both renowned patent attorneys at the time, joined forces with Tibor Somlai. The history of our firm dates back to 1896 and Tibor Schön, who was among one of the first patent attorneys in Hungary, and his son, Tibor Somlai. Tibor Somlai followed in his father's footsteps by qualifying as a patent attorney in 1929. A period of Hungarian economic expansion followed in the 1960's when both András Beliczay and Ferenc Bíró, both renowned patent attorneys at the time, joined forces with Tibor Somlai. In 1969 and along with a few other prominent attorneys at law the trio set about establishing the Patent and Law Office for International Affairs, the legal predecessor of SBGK Patent and Law Offices.

The founders of the firm soon realized that the most effective protection of intellectual property lies in team-work. With patent attorneys and attorneys at law assisting each other in complex legal and technical tasks, there was little that could not be achieved. Of the original Founders, Dr. Béla Kende attorney at law was the leader of this team up until his death. Another Founder, Dr. Ádám Szentpéteri was among one of the first to be awarded with the Ányos Jedlik prize in Hungary and works presently as the Head of the Trademark Association and also heads the main counsel at our Office.
The structure of the firm

The firm is directed by the Board, the elected Head of which also heads the Law Office. The other members of the Board, another two attorneys at law and a patent attorney are the Heads of the Patent Office. The Board's role is the general leadership of the Firm and the determination of management and business policy.

The high standard of quality represented by our services is due to the professional experience of our attorneys at law and patent attorneys and is backed up by a cutting edge administrative computer system. We give continuous attention and emphasis onto the improvement of this system and the tasks it manages with data protection being one such example given a high priority.
