History:

On July 10, 2002, First Southern Bancshares consummated the acquisition of Shawnee Bancshares. This acquisition was the culmination of an initial capital stock offering of approximately $6,000,000 raised by approximately 70 Southern Illinois investors.

The idea of a locally owned and operated community bank began when four Southern Illinois bankers combined with six local business people to form the executive officer and director group of First Southern Bank. The group's concept to meet the financial needs of Southern Illinoisans is founded on providing traditional financial products with state of the art technology and unparalleled, friendly "first name" service to our customers.

In 2002 with $24 million at our inception in assets, the bank has exceeded our expectations and grown to over $150 million in assets in 5 short years. We would like to thank our customers and the community.
