Grant Thornton Bahamas

Overview:

Grant Thornton Bahamas was initially established as Gomez & Co., Chartered Accountants in January 1990 by Paul Andy Gomez at the age of 31. Paul had previously worked with Peat Marwick & Mitchell (now KPMG) in both their Nassau and Downtown Los Angeles offices, and also with Thorne Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) in Nassau as an audit manager.

In October 1990 the name of the firm was changed to Gomez & Gomez, and an agreement was signed to represent Grant Thornton as a correspondent Firm in The Bahamas in 1991. In 2001 the Firm became a full Grant Thornton Member Firm within the Grant Thornton International network.

On October 1, 2007 Kendrick K. Christie, formerly a senior manager with Deloitte and a past president of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (“the BICA”), the governing body for all professionally qualified accountants in The Bahamas, joined the firm as an Assurance and Advisory Partner.

Growing businesses need advisers they can trust. They need experience and expertise so that, as they grow, they can rely on advice to deal with situations. Similarly, with more mature international businesses, trust is at the heart of the relationship. Working with business advisers on a coordinated global approach can help steer the company through current or potential issues.

Grant Thornton member firms work internationally with clients. They become trusted advisers on consolidated audits, raising money on the capital markets or navigating international regulations. We are leaders in the entrepreneurial market, and also provide specialist services to listed clients, particularly as international regulations restrict auditors of listed clients in many areas.

These are areas where Grant Thornton Bahamas is strong, through deep experience with privately held businesses. The services include assurance, tax and specialist advice.
Formerly known as:  Gomez & Co.
