Bayerische Landesbank

Overview:

BayernLB was formed in 1972 from the merger between Landesbodenkreditanstalt and Bayerische Gemeindebank. Under its revised strategy, it will concentrate on the Mittelstand, large corporates, commercial real estate and retail banking segments from now on. BayernLB has strong relationships with German and international customers and is excellently positioned in export and project financing, particularly in the growing renewable energy market.

Locations
BayernLB is headquartered in Munich, with Germany and selected European countries forming the regional focus of its business. It also has a presence in major financial centres around the world.

Legal form and ownership structure
The Bank's legal form is that of a "corporation established under public law". It is owned (indirectly via BayernLB Holding AG) by the Free State of Bavaria and the Association of Bavarian Savings Banks.

Partner for the Mittelstand
Thanks to its many years of expertise, BayernLB's customer base includes a great number of customers in the Mittelstand segment. These companies regard BayernLB as a strong and reliable partner for financing solutions, risk optimisation and expansion of their sales regions. In addition, Mittelstand customers have access to the emerging markets in South Eastern Europe via the Group's subsidiaries Hypo Group Alpe Adria and MKB, while the successful German Centres in Asia, located in Shanghai and Delhi.Gurgaon (India), enhance the Bank's service offering.

Large corporates

BayernLB is the first point of contact for many large corporates, including institutional customers and savings banks, with regard to export and project financing. It also provides a range of attractive financial products and services for the region's savings banks and opens the door to the international capital markets. BayernLB's close association with the Free State of Bavaria, with its export-driven economy, is an integral part of the Bank's identity. This is also the basis for supporting Bavarian customers' international activities.

Commercial real estate

BayernLB's very good market position in Germany serves as a stable foundation for its commercial real estate business. Long-term commercial real estate financing is a core element of the product offering for customers in Germany and the rest of Europe.

Retail banking
BayernLB Group has built up a significant retail customer business. Thanks to its Home Loan Division (LBS Bayern), it is the market leader in the building savings business in Bavaria and, through BayernLabo, it is actively involved in the promotion of residential construction and urban development, mainly in the areas of new construction, renovation, home purchasing and infrastructure measures. Through the Group subsidiary DKB, internet-savvy retail customers have access to a wide range of attractive banking products. Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB) is Germany's fastest-growing and second-largest direct bank, with over 1.5 million customers.
