The Legal Revolution
MJ Hudson intends to be one of the very first commercial law firms to take advantage of the Alternative Business Structures allowed by the Legal Services Act 2007. This will enable the Firm to receive external capital and develop a corporate culture with a strong business focus, encouraging a mutually rewarding long term partnership with our clients.
MJ Hudson was established by its Founding and Senior Partner, Matthew Hudson. Matthew recognised the gap in the market for a highly specialist alternative asset law firm and with more flexible fee structures than those of the larger London or U.S. law firms.

MJ Hudson Jersey was originally founded as VerrasLaw by Jonathan Bale and Hiren Patel as a niche commercial, corporate finance and investment funds legal practice in Jersey, established to provide specialist legal services in those core practice areas.

In November 2013 MJHudson merged with M.W. Cornish & Co., another boutique alternatives firm, best known for its hedge fund and regulatory expertise. The combined firm boasts one of the largest alternatives teams in London with some 30 lawyers.

In August 2014 MJ Hudson opened its Hong Kong office. MJ Hudson’s expansion into Hong Kong, a key asset management and funds jurisdiction, will allow the firm to further develop and grow on the basis of its founding principle.

By acting for a broad range of investors, asset managers, investment banks and entrepreneurs, the Firm has a powerful insight into funds terms, investment opportunities and emerging trends within the private equity and hedge fund industries and alternative assets more generally. Our clients also appreciate the Firm opening up its contact base and network to help them achieve their business goals.
