HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng is an established CPA firm in Hong Kong, a member of HLB International, a worldwide network of independent accounting firms and business advisers. The present company was formed in 1983, but we have been here for over 60 years, and we can trace our origins in the UK back even further - almost 200 years. Over that period we have built up a wealth of experience and contacts. We are currently ranked top 6 in Hong Kong in terms of the number of listed companies we audit. Our clients also include family-controlled businesses which have grown with us over the years to the point that a number of them are now very substantial concerns indeed.
Our belief is that we are a firm large enough to give clients a comprehensive range of business and financial advice, international enough to help our clients meet their needs throughout Asia and world-wide. Yet we make every effort to ensure we offer a truly personal service. Nor do we forget that several of our biggest clients started very small.

Although HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng established themselves as Chartered Accountants and Certified Public Accountants, the firm today encompasses everything from general business consultancy, M&A, IPOs, taxation, fraud prevention, regulatory compliance and corporate finance activities, through to meeting the demands of clients in the latest developments in Information Technology. Our Strength
We believe firmly that the services we offer deliver real benefit only if they are properly structured to the client's own needs. 'Off-the-shelf' solutions usually end up costly, and that's because individual needs do vary so greatly.
It makes no difference whether we are carrying out a straightforward audit, or advising on a complicated group re-structuring, because we know our clients personally we can understand their business and appreciate their needs.

History:
1796 Hodgson Impey established in United Kingdom
1950 T Wong & Partners established in Hong Kong
1973 D Cheng & Co was established, and merged with T Wong & Partners co-developing business in Hong Kong
1979-1982 Mr David K W Cheng was elected President of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong
1983 After the merge, HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng started to develop various professional services, such as general business consulting, tax services, corporate services, audit assurance services, China services, corporate finance services ("CFS") and regulatory and financial industries services ("RFI") etc.
1985 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng became a council member of HLB International.
1990-1993 Appointed as a Registered Consultant with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
1994 Council of HLB China established. Mr David K W Cheng, Senior Partner of HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng appointed Chairman of the Council.
1996 HLB International meeting held in Hong Kong. The Hon. Henry Tang, JP and the Hon. James Tien, OBE, JP were invited as guest speakers at the Opening Session. Mr Donald Tsang, the then Financial Secretary and other government officials also joined the event.
1997 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng was appointed Consultant of Government of the HKSAR for the following departments:
Registered Financial Consultant to the Finance Bureau and Financial Services Bureau; and
Registered Consultant with the Management Services Agency
1998 A number of partners were appointed committee members of HKICPA (including Financial Accounting Standards Committee, Corporate Governance Committee,etc)
1999 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng was relocated to Wheelock House.
1999 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng was appointed as approved Firm on the Panel for liquidation cases of the Official Receiver's office of the Government of HKSAR.
2000 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng was appointed as authorized auditor under the MPFA.
2002-2004 During the period, HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng successfully helped a number of clients listed in Hong Kong, Singapore, USA Nasdaq and London AIM Board. In terms of numbers of clients listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng had become the CPA firm behind the Big 4. (Listed Company Auditors Survey)
2005 To cope with the rapid expansion of HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng's business services, the office was relocated to Gloucester Tower, The Landmark. Number of staff reached 230.
2005 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng successfully registered with Public Company Accountants Oversight Board (PCAOB) in US.
2006 Mr David Cheng was elected Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Asia-Oceania Tax Consultants Association's (AOTCA) Annual Meeting held in Hong Kong.
2006 HLB International joined an overseas students internship programme organized by the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA). Four students were recommended to our firm and were assigned to work in our Audit and Assurance Department for three months. The students were selected after competing with candidates from 22 universities in China.
2007 HLB International attended the 11th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) as exhibitor.
2007 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng sponsored the Cross-Straits Accounting Profession Conference held in Hong Kong.
2007 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng was one of the supporting organizations of the Best Corporate Governance Disclosure Awards (BCGD). Mr Raymond C C Cheng was an appointed member of the Quality Review Panel of BCGD and the Director of our Risk Management Department was an appointed member of the Compliance Review Panel of BCGD.
2009 "Approved Auditor" approved by the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission (BVI FSC).
2009 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng successfully registered with the UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Professional Oversight Board (POB) as a Third Country Audit Entity.
2009 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng was appointed as an External Accountancy Consultant of the Urban Renewal Authority and Lands Department.
2010 HLB Hodgson Impey Cheng and ZhongXi Certified Public Accountants Co., Ltd. - Strategic Partnership
2010 Appointment of Mr Raymond C C Cheng as Managing Partner of the firm. |
