In 1977, the family of Dr CHA Chi Ming, the late founder and chairman of the Group, acquired the equity interest of Hong Kong Resort Company Limited which is the registered owner and developer of Discovery Bay on Lantau Island. The shares of Hong Kong Resort and another Group company were once listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited in late 1980’s. During the years 1988 and 1989, the Group underwent a series of reorganisation and scheme of arrangement and formed HKR International Limited (HKRI) in May 1989 as its new listed holding company carrying on principally real estate development and other related businesses.

HKRI has been traded on the Stock Exchange since then and is currently a constituent of the Hang Seng Composite Index Series under the stock code of 00480. Today, HKRI has diversified interests in real estate development and investment, property management, luxury hotels and serviced apartments, property related manufacturing, healthcare services and other investments in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Asia.

HKRI’s flagship development in Hong Kong is Discovery Bay, a fully integrated resort-styled residential project with about 18,000 residents (as of mid-2011). Over the years, HKRI continues to develop and complete residential, commercial and community facilities in Discovery Bay.

In Mainland China, HKRI is developing its flagship project in Dazhongli of the Jingan district in Shanghai. This world-class mixed-used commercial project is poised to become a new landmark in Puxi and is targeted for completion in phases from 2015 onwards.

HKRI has numerous other ongoing development projects, investment interests and completed projects in Hong Kong and other key cities in Asia, including Shanghai, Tianjin, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo and Sapporo.
