Overview:

We're an online, full-service accounting firm with over 20 years of experience. Several years ago, we shut the doors of our physical offices for good. Now we work remotely from all over the United States, from California to Florida to New Hampshire. Our philosophy is that a happy team makes for happy clients, so we do our best to provide a fullfilling work environment for our excellent bookkeepers, accountants, and virtual CFOs. This ensures that our clients get the best service possible from a highly motivated team.
History:

Bruce Phillips grew up in Rhode Island in the 1970s and attended the College of William & Mary from 1980 to 1984. After graduating, he decided to go south to Atlanta to start his career with Arthur Young. In the late 1980s he became an audit manager for Ernst & Young. Bruce left Ernst & Young in the early 1990s to work at a boutique CPA firm in Atlanta, Halligan & Associates. Just a year and a half later, Tony Halligan suffered a heart attack and passed away in the middle of tax season. At the time, the firm just had just two other minority partners, and losing Halligan was devastating for everyone at the firm both personally and from a business perspective. Not sure quite what to do, Bruce called Bill Harshman, who had also left Ernst & Young and was practicing on his own.

Bill agreed to come in to help with some of the bigger tax clients. Together they managed to hold on to all but one of the biggest clients, and decided to go into business together. Harshman Phillips & Company was born. For decades Harshman Phillips was a traditional CPA firm. But all that started to change in 2011 when Bruce met Rod Drury, the founder of Xero, at The Sleeter Group's Accounting Solutions Conference in Las Vegas. After talking with Rod, Bruce realized that technology like Xero was about to dramatically change the way accountants interact with their clients.

Bruce flew back to Atlanta and started setting up Harshman Phillips & Company (HPC) on Xero. Within six months, HPC was Xero's number one partner in the United States. Not long thereafter, HPC mothballed its servers closed its physical offices, letting all employees work from home. In mid-2015, HPC acquired Cloudsourced Accounting, an online bookkeeping and cloud integration firm. With the addition of the Cloudsourced Accounting team in 2015, HPC increased its head count to 25, with team members spanning the country from California to Florida to New Hampshire.
