Overview:

As a family member of the Allianz Group, Allianz Fire and Marine Insurance Japan was established in 1990 to engage in the non-life insurance business in Japan. At that point, Allianz was an early pioneer in the market being one of the first international insurers to receive a license for the non-life insurance business in Japan. In the initial phase, our main clients consisted of multinational business firms. However, making use of the Group’s network and its vast expertise and underwriting capacity, we have been able to expand our business to serve Japanese companies mainly in corporate insurance and risk management.

Since 2006, Allianz has successfully grown in the local corporate market and started to further expand in the retail area, especially in the promising market of pet insurance. Again, Allianz in Japan has proven its first-mover ability and was the first insurer to be granted a license for pet insurance from the Financial Services Agency. In this new environment, where increasing competition is expected, we will continue to accelerate our business infrastructure and innovative approach.

Our goal is to maintain and expand our presence in all core business areas, offering Japanese customers an opportunity to benefit from the Group's internationally successful products, excellent financial performance and world-class service. By this, we also shall continue to strengthen our internal management system and compliance to foster stronger ties with you.

History:

Allianz Fire and Marine Insurance Japan Ltd. was established as a 100% capitalized company of the Allianz Group in 1990, after it became the first European insurer to win approval to set up a wholly-owned general insurance subsidiary in Japan.

Corporate history and development of capital

November 1990:
Established the company in Minato-ku, Tokyo with a capital of 2 billion yen.
December 1990:
Acquired a Non-life insurance business license in Japan.
April 1991:
Started business mainly with German companies in Japan.
April 1993:
Established a branch office in Osaka.
September 1995:
Increased capital of 500 million yen, and total amount of capital became 2.5 billion yen.
April 1999:
Assurance Generales de France (AGF) Tokyo office was integrated into Allianz Fire and Marine Insurance Japan Ltd. (Exclusive of credit insurance)

March 2000:
Increased capital of 1 billion yen, and total amount of capital became 3.5 billion yen.
February 2006:
Became the first Non-life insurance company to acquire a pet insurance license in Japan.
March 2007:
Increased capital of 600 million yen, and total amount of capital became 4.1 billion yen.

March 2008:
Increased capital of 600 million yen, and total amount of capital became 4.7 billion yen.
