CGI Merchant Group (“CGI”) is a financial services company which through its affiliates operates an investment banking boutique and investment management firm. We are a minority owned enterprise operating a FINRA/SIPC member broker/dealer, CGI Merchant Capital, LLC, and an SEC licensed registered investment advisor, CGI Merchant Partners, LLC. CGI and its affiliates offer a suite of high-value services including financial advisory, capital markets, and investment management solutions. We have a diverse client roster consisting of emerging to middle market corporations, financial institutions, entrepreneurs, financial sponsors, developers, sovereigns & municipalities, and high-net-worth individuals. Our principals and directors bring decades of experience across the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe with a particular strength in the developing world
Since the firm’s founding in 2005, its partners have sought to provide its clients with an alternative to large Wall Street banking firms. Rather than trying to be all things to all people, CGI’s value proposition is delivering decades of proven investment banking experience in the global developed & emerging markets with its principals having raised billions of dollars raised for Sovereigns, corporations and financial institutions across all equity and debt products. Often times this represented for our client their inaugural capital markets debut, and often times we opened new markets with customized, innovative solutions. CGI stands out for its insight into the markets, its creative structures, its thoughtful advice, and access to capital, especially in frontier markets. We pride ourselves in our innovative and problem-solving strategies and often invite the most complex and challenging situations. Unlike many larger firms, we are not product driven or bias towards any particular solution. Our goal is to enhance franchise value for our clients by understanding their needs and then offering a broad palette of solutions tailored specifically for them. Once we agree on a solution, we work with best of breed financial partners to deliver the best execution for our clients.
CGI currently operates in two business segments, Investment Banking and Asset Management. The Investment Bank is managed as a single operating segment and is operated by CGI Merchant Capital, LLC. Our trusted banking professionals provide clients with advisory and best efforts capital raising services through creative and idea-driven capital markets, corporate advisory and project finance solutions across a number of industries.
The Asset Management segment is comprised of an investment management practice; operated by our RIA, CGI Merchant Partners, LLC. Through this segment we provide proprietary and third-party investment management services and products for various institutional clients. We specialize in within the real estate, energy and infrastructure sectors. |

History:
The Firm was founded in 2005, but rooted in over 20 years of investment banking experience and training. Born out of a sponsorship that began its banking experience and foundation in US banking regulation; fortuitous events lead to a strong track record in global capital markets execution afforded through top rated global investment banks with both domestic and international assignments.
In 2008 the Firm acquired a FINRA/SIPC member registered broker-dealer to augment its financial advisory service offerings and bolster its capital markets capabilities.
The premise of the Firm was to build a robust, regulated and focused investment banking platform, on which partnerships and alliances could be forged and fostered with global bankers, financial institutions, DFIs, investors, and NGOs. Since the Firms inception, the principals have endeavored to provide unmatched personalized service to their clients while building an eclectic portfolio of investment banking transactions. In its relatively short period of operation, the Firm has developed and gradually cultivated a unique business model; one which does not hold rigidly to a single paradigm of investment banking, and when executing on any number of financial advisory assignments, draws upon multiple schools of discipline and ideas to gain complementary insights into the Firm’s identity.
The financial crisis had a profound impact on thousands of financial institutions and businesses, and on millions of households. Because of the Firm’s diverse nature and flexibility, it was not only able to weather the financial storm, but was able to identify opportunities unique to such an environment, and execute on them; creating a catalyst for the Firm’s rapid expansion and laying the groundwork for its present day position.
In the 3rd quarter of 2011, as a result of a robust investment banking track record in the US, the Firm launched its asset management division under the auspices of a SEC Registered Investment Advisor. The objective was to develop a competence as an emerging minority investment manager geared to our core competence within our sectors of expertise. |
