Equity Trust Company (Curaçao) NV

Overview:

Equity Trust has a presence in both Curaçao and Bonaire, two islands that were formerly part of The Netherlands Antilles.

An autonomous country within the Kingdom of The Netherlands since 1954, The Netherlands Antilles was dissolved on October 10th 2010. Up to this date, the jurisdiction had comprised five islands - St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius in addition to Curaçao and Bonaire.

Under the new political structure, Curaçao has become an autonomous country in its own right, and the less populated island of Bonaire has special municipality status within The Netherlands.

Curaçao

Equity Trust has had a presence in Curaçao since 1972 and, through acquisition and organic growth, is now home to one of our larger global offices with around 66 highly qualified staff, most of whom are able to speak English, Dutch and Spanish fluently.

Located in the south Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela, the island of Curaçao is strategically positioned between South America and the USA with excellent communication links to Europe. With a favourable fiscal environment for businesses and individuals, it is an ideal jurisdiction for investors and entrepreneurs, as well as private and corporate clients.

Though not a member of the European Union (EU), Curaçao is affiliated to the EU, an arrangement that offers significant tax advantages. The financial services industry of Curaçao is supervised and regulated by the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten, in close co-operation with the Dutch Central Bank, ensuring its reputation as one of the world's leading offshore centres and offering unparalleled financial security and stability.

Bonaire

Since the dissolution of The Netherlands Antilles, Bonaire along with St. Eustatius and Saba - collectively known as the BES Islands - have the official status of special municipalities within The Netherlands.

The Dutch State Secretary of Finance announced that, from January 2011 the tax system of the BES islands will be simplified, and will include a reduction in income tax and profit tax. Anticipating that some companies might find Bonaire more favourable than Curaçao, Equity Trust Bonaire has been incorporated since 2009.
