Overview:

1976, saw the establishment of a firm of chartered accountants, Desai Jadwat and Company, founded by Devendra Desai and Cassim Jadwat, the partnership initially operated from small rented premises in the Kara Centre in Grey Street, Durban. However due to rapid growth soon forced a move to more spacious offices in the near Nedbank House and thereafter to premises at Queen Street. In November 2001 the firm moved to its current location at 202 Brickfield Road.

In 1995 the firm converted to an incorporated practice, namely Desai Jadwat Incorporated. The current directors are Cassim Jadwat, Mohamed Sadek Paruk and Yusuf Kadwa.

The new millennium heralded a major change in the mission and vision of the company. The new is to offer company’s services, not only in Durban but nationally. This has been necessitated by the company having clients throughout South Africa. The company has also expanded its service to include the public sector which requires a national presence and also wishes to be a multicultural company which creates opportunities for its diverse population.

As part of the program, the company has established offices in Johannesburg, known as Desai Jadwat Sondiyazi Incorporated. Mr M L Sondiyazi chartered accountant and registered accountant and auditor, will be responsible for the new office. In addition, with his many years of business experience at the Industrial Development Corporation, he will spearhead the company’s consulting and marketing activities.

Today, after almost 30 year in the business the company is renown for its expertise in auditing, accounting, finance, tax and general business matters. From its established base in the city of Durban, the company has formed extensive national and international associations with many other accounting firms throughout the Republic of South Africa and the rest of the world.

We use a simple yet highly effective internal structure I which each director is responsible for specific areas of specialization within the practice.

Each incoming assignment is allocated to specific director who heads the team responsible for its completion. The assignment is thoroughly assessed and personnel are assigned in relation to the nature of the project, the level of complexity and client expectations. The composition of each team is designed to maximize co-operation and efficiency during each assignment. An extensive library of software is available for all projects and all our computers are linked by a modern network system which is upgraded continuously.

The directors are well supported by qualified accounting personnel and computer operators who are in turn aided by trainees and other ancillary staff. Our goal is to offer a stimulating and yet satisfying environment to all employees, without compromising high standards of professionalism and service.

All directors are qualified chartered accountants with considerable experience in auditing and business consulting.

All staff are from previously disadvantaged groups with female employees comprising the majority.

Affirmative Action Policy

The company comprises entirely of people from disadvantaged backgrounds and has served the community from inception and will continue to do so.

There are still imbalances within the gender and racial composition of the accounting profession. Apart from supporting the efforts of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in promoting the profession to women and the African population in particular, the firm is constantly searching for interested students amongst the African population. It is our policy that the yearly staff intake should include such students. Constant encouragement is given to students with regard to further education through in-house training courses to improve their accounting and auditing knowledge and ability.
