Overview:
Since welcoming our first customers in 1832, Scotiabank has enjoyed continued success by building on traditional core strengths - risk management, cost control, diversification, customer satisfaction and great employees. Our goal is to be the best Canadian-based international financial services company.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of who we are and how we do business at Scotiabank. Our commitment to CSR provides us with a competitive edge; it contributes to customer and employee satisfaction, helps us meet our shareholder expectations and broadens our community relationships.
Another important component of CSR is our community giving. In 2008, the Bank contributed more than $43 million in sponsorships and donations. Contributions were made to a variety of Canadian and international projects and initiatives, with a focus primarily on education, health care, social services, and arts and culture. Additionally, our employees spent more than 240,000 hours volunteering and fundraising through our formal community programs.
Our Core Businesses
Our core purpose is to be the best at helping customers become financially better off. This guides all our decisions. We are committed to providing excellence in customer service by living our shared values, as a team and individually. Diversification, by business and geography, continues to be the focus of our strategy and underpins our potential for sustainable earnings growth in each of our three business lines - Canadian Banking, International Banking and Scotia Capital - over the long term.
