In 1973, Société Générale was one of the first European banks to open a branch in Tokyo. Today, Société Générale Group has nearly 600 employees in Japan working in three key businesses: Corporate and Investment Banking, Asset Management and Private Banking. Launched in June 2002, SG Private Banking (Japan) Ltd. is an entity positioned to offer Japanese high net worth clients a broad range of private banking services under a single roof.

The creation of the new entity, through the acquisition of the Chase Trust Bank (Japan), is in line with SG's strategy of strengthening its on-shore wealth management activities worldwide, particularly in Asia.

Underpinned by the Société Générale Group’s global expertise and reach in the development of financial products and asset management, SG Private Banking (Japan) Ltd provides a comprehensive range of financial products and services under an integrated estate management strategy.

SG Private Banking (Japan) Ltd. offers banking services such as deposits, loans and foreign exchange, including discretionary and advisory portfolio management services as well as financial engineering and inheritance-related services.

SG Private Banking (Japan) Ltd is based in Tokyo and has 50 staff members managed by François Barbé. At the end of 2002, it managed assets of around 300 Billion JPY (2.6 billion EUR).
