History:
In 1959, a young business entrepreneur – backed by a wealth of professional experience and animated by the desire to serve his country- laid the cornerstone of what was to become one of the leading accounting firms in the country: L. C. Diaz & Associates.
Armed with meticulously handpicked staff and associates, the firm flourished at its infancy with the network of connections and prolific experience Luis C. Diaz gained from years of practice. Barely a year after, Diaz - who had since then decided to make travel a part and parcel of his life-long learning experience – was granted the timely opportunity to visit over 30 countries in an 8-month stint as an Eisenhower fellow. It was an invaluable exposure that later on proved to be a catalyst in the firm's growth.
A year later, one of the trustees of the fellowship introduced Mr. Diaz to the partners of Wolf and Co. (later to be known as Clark Battams Wolf and Co.). It became the first multinational firm auditing firm to extend an invitation of affiliation with the company.
The firm faced imminent expansion as clients steadily streamed in droves. Soon after, branches were put in Davao and Bacolod to accommodate the vastly increasing number of clients hailing from the agricultural, lumber and mining industry. As businesses prospered with the favorable economic conditions of the 60s, the Management Services Division put up another servicing arm to further assist its clients in the many functions of Management Planning and Control. To keep up with increasing clientele and services, L.C. Diaz and Associates added new partners and changed its name to L.C. Diaz and Co. in 1970. The country-wide expansion continued as the list of clients from different pockets of the archipelago grew, thus elevating L.C. Diaz and Co. to the ranks of the top accounting firms in the country.
But it was during the political turmoil and economic recession of the 80s that the firm's integrity was put to a test. Businesses were plummeting at staggering rates and the field of management consultancy and accountancy was clearly not an exception . With an astute sense of resourcefulness and viability, the firm sought out opportunities in challenges and took special notice of the thriving commercial and manufacturing enterprises in Cebu – a strategic maneuver further bolstered by the establishment of the Mactan Export Processing Zone.
Amidst the on-going expansion, two multinational accounting firms offered L.C. Diaz and Co. membership status. After thorough consideration, the firm chose Touche Ross International (or TRI – which later on became Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu International), a multinational auditing firm catering to more than 170 countries worldwide. The firm already achieved noteworthy success despite the economic setbacks of the decade and with the newly-forged partnership, became a fertile breeding ground for the best of the best – providing personnel and staff in-depth training and extensive exposure to local and international clients. Lauded as one of the most respected in Asia, L.C. Diaz and Co. emerged on top of the five local professional service firms. In 1993, the firm changed its name to DIAZ MURILLO DALUPAN.
Despite the Asian economic slump in the late 90s, DMD continued to amass national and international clients as it continued to improve and expand its services in line with its goal of professional progress and contributing to the economic development of the Philippine nation.
Through the years, DMD has earned the respect of the business community and established itself as an institution of professional integrity. In 1999, as it celebrated its 40 th anniversary, the firm renewed its unwavering commitment to nation-building and service excellence with the virtues of hard work and integrity at its core.
With over a hundred partners, principals and support staff, DMD takes pride in being a fully-Filipino firm offering a full range of auditing, accounting, tax and management consultancy services catering to local, regional and multinational firms.
Having disaffiliated with the multi-national firm, DMD has even further strengthened its commitment to develop the skills of Filipino professionals who are already at par with the world's best.
