The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation

Inception And Purpose

The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation was established by an Act of Parliament in August 1983 and services to the public commenced in October 1983. As an approved lender, The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation is authorized to make Government Guaranteed Loans under the provisions of the Housing Act. The Corporation may also make other mortgage loans to individuals (private loans).

In carrying out its mandate to stimulate, encourage and promote affordable home ownership, the corporation has enabled thousands of Bahamians to become homeowners. This is facilitated by making financial funding available to individuals for:

   * Construction of a new home
   * Purchase of a new or existing single or multi-family structure
   * Rehabilitation or enlargement of an existing structure
