IADI

Mission statement:

To contribute to the enhancement of deposit insurance effectiveness by promoting guidance and international cooperation.

Overview:

IADI is a forum for deposit insurers from around the world to gather to share knowledge and expertise. It provides training and educational programs and produces research and guidance on matters related to deposit insurance.

The Executive Council has established seven standing committees, as well as regional committees for Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Eurasia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and North America. The regional committees provide a voice to the common interests and issues affecting members in those regions. They also serve as separate forums for sharing information and ideas.

History:

IADI was founded on 6 May 2002. It is a non-profit organization, constituted under Swiss law.

The genesis of IADI was the Working Group on Deposit Insurance established by the Financial Stability Forum (FSF) in 2000. The Working Group, in turn, was established following the findings of the Study Group on Deposit Insurance, which the FSF constituted in 1999. The Working Group and the Study Group were headed by Mr. Jean Pierre Sabourin of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation.

In September 2001, the Working Group issued its report to the FSF on guidance for establishing a deposit insurance system. Soon afterwards members of the Working Group got efforts underway to establish IADI.

On 18 June 2009, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) today issued the Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems.

   IADI was founded on 6 May 2002.
   IADI is based at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland.
   IADI and BCBS recently developed Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems.
   Jerzy Pruski is IADI's Chair of the Executive Council and President. Mr. Pruski is President of the Management Board of the Bank Guarantee Fund of Poland.
   IADI's Treasurer is Rose Detho. Ms. Detho is Diretor of Deposit Protection Fund Board of Kenya.
   IADI's Secretary General is Carlos Isoard. Its Deputy Secretary General is Ms. Kim Peeters White.
