Profile:
The Group has been operating in Mexico since opening a representative office in the 1970s. In 2000, with the acquisition of Republic National Bank, Republic’s banking subsidiary in Mexico was integrated with the Group, and was renamed HSBC Bank Mexico, S.A.
On 25th November 2002, HSBC acquired a controlling stake in Grupo Financiero Bital, S.A. de C.V., and today holds 99.7% of the financial services group, which held 99.2% of Banco Internacional, S.A., an extensive banking franchise offering a full range of corporate banking, commercial banking and personal banking services.
The integration of Grupo Financiero Bital and its companies into the Group was concluded in January 2004 and all Mexican operations were consequently renamed under the HSBC brand. The integration included the areas of banking, insurance, financing bonds, investment funds, retirement benefits management and securities.
One of Mexico’s top four banks, HSBC offers more than 1,400 branches throughout Mexico, operates 4,500 ATMs, and serves more that 6 million customers.
