Gallagher & Kennedy

Overview:

Gallagher & Kennedy’s five-member Board of Directors serves as the nucleus of leadership for the firm.  All five Board members are practicing attorneys and contribute unique competencies to the board through support of the managing partner in day-to-day operations, strategic planning and financial and resources management.

Board members include Mike Kennedy, co-founder, practicing in General Commercial Litigation, Professional Liability and Sports Law; Dean Short, managing partner, practicing in Sports Law and Business Law; Kevin O’Malley, lead attorney of the firm’s General Commercial Litigation and Public Bidding & Procurement practices; and Tim Brown, lead attorney of the Tax Law practice, focusing on federal tax matters, and Shannon Clark, shareholder practicing in Plaintiff’s Personal Injury & Wrongful Death.

CO-FOUNDERS’  VALUES SHAPE CULTURE
The values on which the firm was built are directly tied to those ingrained in each of the co-founders.  Both Mike Gallagher and Mike Kennedy were reared with high regard for family, hard work, fairness and helping others.  These personal values became the Gallagher & Kennedy law firm culture, which places the utmost importance on hard work, service excellence through teamwork and a balanced approach to work, family and community.

Of the principles the two founders relied on while growing their law practice, Kennedy said, “We were most often guided by the standards we learned from our parents, not necessarily what we learned in law school.”
History:

The law firm of Gallagher & Kennedy was founded in 1978, when Mike Kennedy and Mike Gallagher decided to open their own law firm in Phoenix.  Just 37 years later, the law firm is the fifth largest law firm in Arizona.

History has shown Gallagher & Kennedy to be a classic American success story, built on the vision of two optimistic and tenacious young attorneys.  Though lacking deep pockets, the two Mikes were rich in ambition and determination.  Kennedy quips, ” “The lender’s collateral for a modest business loan consisted of “seconds” on our Country Squire and Monte Carlo.”  In the early days, the firm’s work primarily focused on insurance and litigation.  While the start-up quarters and earliest client list were modest, the young firm was on its way.

At the 10-year mark, Gallagher & Kennedy had begun to expand from primarily a litigation-based firm to include more business law services.  Weathering the economic turbulence of the 80s, the firm was well-positioned to participate in Arizona’s explosive growth of the 90s.  With a mounting track record of success and growing reputation in the community, the firm was able to attract top talent to fuel its growth and expansion into the practice areas of Environmental Law, Personal Injury & Wrongful Death, Bankruptcy & Creditors Rights, Intellectual Property and Criminal Law.
