History:

Monroe Shine & Company can trace its roots back to 1925, when William P. Stein started a one-man accounting practice in New Albany, IN. It has evolved from that one-man accounting practice into one of the largest, most-respected and established, independent certified public accounting firms in Southern Indiana and Central Kentucky.

We're Proud of Our History

In 1937,the Louisville, KY CPA firm of Brown and Imhof purchased Mr. Stein's practice. Two years later, V.G. Monroe became the manager of Brown and Imhof's New Albany office; in 1950 the firm became Brown and Monroe.

In 1963, V.G. Monroe and J.R. Shine separated from the Louisville firm and established their own practice. The new practice grew rapidly in the 1960's and soon, having outgrown its Elsby Building location, began construction on its current New Albany building at the corner of Third and East Market streets, which opened in 1967 and expanded in 1980 and 2000.

With a growing client base, the firm opened an office in Bedford, IN, with Ray Housel at the helm, in 1968. After achieving success with the Bedford office, the firm opened an office in Louisville in 1978.

Expansions and additions position the firm to continue its leading role in the communities and marketplaces of Louisville and southern Indiana. Taking groundbreaking steps throughout the years along with impressive visionary tactics, the forefathers of Monroe Shine contributed greatly to its future.
